Cheap Food

So I admit I am a wee bit of a paranoid freak when it comes to left-leaning, political, social and cultural theories on our current trajectory towards annihilation, but it is starting to get somewhat ominous…

I read a book a number of years ago called The Long Emergency by James Knustler. At the time I thought it was full of pretty scary, albeit somewhat sensationalized, scenarios emerging from the fallout of peak oil. In the past six months I am watching, reading and listening to the mainstream media report on many of the flags that Knustler predicted in Emergency and honestly I am kind of freaking out. Now I stumble across a CBC.ca story regarding the end of cheap food which we all know is directly linked to cheap oil (another Knustler prediction). Yet another prediction which seems to be materializing right before my eyes and although it seems like we have time to fix things, in terms of the clock on which our planet runs, we really only have a few seconds to decide and implement some sort of solution!

I feel like chicken little looking up at the sky… I am almost ready to plant a simple veggie garden and swear off meat altogether… I have one simple statement for this entire quagmire we’ve got ourselves into: paradigm shift. We need to rethink how we do everything or else we as a species and all aspects of our existence (culture, economics, science, etc.) will be contracting just as Mr. Knustler has predicted. Think legacy. Think about how you want to be remembered.
